Described as, “exquisitely voiced” (The Guardian), the Irish soprano Daire Halpin’s operatic engagements have included the world premières of Julia in Torsten Rasch’s The Duchess of Malfi (English National Opera), Hilde in Craig Armstrong’s The Lady from the Sea (Scottish Opera), and Hulda in Raymond Deane’s The Alma Fetish with Wide Open Opera and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. 

Daire Halpin has sung principal roles for Opera Ireland, Opera Theatre Company (now Irish National Opera), Northern Ireland Opera, Les Bougies Baroques, Scottish Opera, English National Opera, the European Opera Centre and Theater Magdeburg.

Her operatic repertoire includes Amor, Proserpina and Ninfa Orfeo, Drusilla/Virtu L’incoronazione di Poppea, Belinda Dido and Aeneas, Galatea Acis and Galatea, Theodora (title role), Tigrane Radamisto, Apollo Il parnaso, Adina L’elisir d’amore, Susanna Le nozze di Figaro, Despina Così fan tutte, Zerlina Don Giovanni Pamina/Papagena Die Zauberflöte, Musetta La Boheme, Jano Jenufa, Tytania A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Gabrielle La Vie Parisienne, Diana Orpheus in the Underworld, Sylvie La Colombe, Lucy The Telephone, The Maid Powder Her Face, Amanda Le Grand Macabre Lucy Lockitt The Beggar’s Opera, and Gianetta The Gondoliers.  She workshopped the role of Rebecca in Nico Muhly’s Two Boys for English National Opera and the Metropolitan Opera of New York.

Daire Halpin’s concert repertoire includes Bach St John Passion and Magnificat, Brahms Requiem, Fauré Requiem, Handel Messiah, Mozart C Minor Mass, Rossini Stabat Mater and Vivaldi Gloria.  She has also sung in premières of works by Rhian Samuels and Colin Mawby. and the World Premiere of Byzantium a new work for voice and piano by Nico Muhly based upon the work of William Butler Yeats for RTÉ.  She has performed with RTÉ Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, European Union Youth Orchestra and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Daire Halpin’s recordings include RTÉ Lyric fm’s Number 1 best-selling Joyce Songs, the soundtrack for BBC Radio 4’s adaptation of Joyce’s Ulysses, Lady from the Sea by Craig Armstrong and Lucy Lockitt for the European Opera Centre with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

Recent highlights have included Zerlina Don Giovanni for Opera Theatre Company, Dublin, Apollo Il Parnaso with Les Bougies Baroques and The Maid Powder Her Face (Thomas Adès) for Northern Ireland Opera – a role she repeats this season with Irish National Opera, Dublin, Neville Holt Opera and Theater Magdeburg (for her German operatic début).

Daire Halpin graduated in Music and Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin prior to vocal studies at the Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and Drama, at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica ‘Luigi Cherubini’ in Florence and on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.  She is a graduate of the Britten Pears and Wexford Fesitval Opera Young Artist Programmes.  At DIT Daire Halpin earned the McNamara medal for Outstanding Acheivement.  She was also selected to take part in the International Lied Masterclasses with Udo Reinemann at the Koninklijk Conservatorium, Brussels.
