Mexican baritone Emmanuel Franco began his career at the Opéra Studio at the Opéra National du Rhin where he performed Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia (Paisiello), Le Fou Cendrillon, Gran Sacerdote Idomeneo and Alphonse XI La Favorite.

Described as “A major stage presence” (San Francisco Classical Voice), Mexican baritone Emmanuel Franco recently studied at the Opéra Studio at the Opéra National du Rhin performing the roles of Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia (Paisiello), Le Fou Cendrillon, Gran Sacerdote Idomeneo, Alphonse XI La Favorite, Slook La cambiale di matrimonio, and one of the Deputati Don Carlo with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg under Maestro Daniele Callegari.

Emmanuel Franco’s career highlights in Europe have included Il conte Le nozze di Figaro at Badisches Staatsoper Karlsruhe (house début), and with National Jeugd Orkest, Bruschino-Padre Il Signor Bruschino, Der Zweiter Nazarener Salome, and Papageno Die Zauberflöte with Opéra National du Rhin, Guglielmo Così fan tutte with Residentie Orkest, Junius and Tarquinius The Rape of Lucretia with the Opera Studio Nederland and Andrea Coclé Die Stumme Serenade with the Dutch National Opera Academy.

In the United States he appeared as Ping Turandot and Manuel La Vida Breve with West Bay Opera, and Jupiter Orphée aux enfers and the title role of Gianni Schicchi while attending the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Opera Theater.

Performances in his native Mexico have included Belcore L’elisir d’amore, Sharpless Madama Butterfly and Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia with Tijuana Opera.  He covered the roles of Don Parmenione L’ocassione fa il ladro and Germano La scala di seta with ProOpera in Mexico City.

Highlights on the concert platform have included Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Orquesta Filarmónica del Estado de Chihuahua under Armando Pesqueira, Carmina Burana with the San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra conducted by Vance George, and Misa Tango (Bacalov) with Stichting Corda Vocale.

Born in Tijuana, Mexico, Emmanuel Franco received his Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and his Master’s degree in Opera and Concert Performance from the Dutch National Opera Academy in Amsterdam.

Future plans include his début at the 2018 Rossini in Wildbad Festival as Buralicchio L’equivoco stravagante, Belcore L’elisir d’amore at the AGAO Theater in Pamplona, Spain, Sacha in Shostakovich’s Paradise Moscow with Opéra Louise in Switzerland and his début at the 2019 Wexford Festival as Il Califfo in Rossini’s Adina.
