Simon Grange’s professional engagements have included Commendatore Don Giovanni (Mid Wales Opera YAP, Rye Arts Festival, Opera Loki), Dr Bartolo Le nozze di Figaro (Mid Wales Opera YAP), Basilio Il barbiere di Siviglia (Mid Wales Opera YAP), Sparafucile Rigoletto (Regents Opera), Tom Un ballo in maschera (Winslow Hall Opera), Fiesco and Pietro Simon Boccanegra, Raimondo Lucia di Lammermoor and Lodovico Otello (Fulham Opera).

He has also covered the role of Reinmar Tannhäuser (Longborough Festival Opera) and is a member of the extra chorus at Opera North, where he has participated in performances of Turandot and Un ballo in maschera. While a student he performed Superintendent Budd Albert Herring, and Zweiter Geharnischtermann Die Zauberflöte, both for the Royal College of Music International Opera School.

Other operatic repertoire performed includes Sarastro Die Zauberflöte, Colline La Bohème, Zuniga Carmen, Simone Gianni Schicchi.  He has also appeared in Gilbert and Sullivan as Sergeant of the Police Pirates of Penzance and Dick Dead Eye HMS Pinafore.

On the concert platform, Simon Grange has performed as Jesus and Peter in Bach St John’s Passion (Somerville College, Oxford/Musicians of the Dreaming Spires), Bach Mass in F Major (The Music Troupe), as Valens in Handel Theodora (Benslow Baroque Opera), as Raphael and Adam in Haydn Creation (Abingdon and District Musical Society), Mozart Requiem (Reading Phoenix Choir) and as the Bass/Goat in Stravinsky Renard both on stage in English and in concert in Russian with Psappha, Constella Ballet and The Helios Ensemble.

Simon Grange is a committed performer of contemporary music, creating the bass solos in Janice Kerbel’s concert piece, Doug, the roles of Belshazzar and Habakkuk in Edward Lambert’s An Opera of Daniel, and the role of Commendatore in Hunter Colbentz’ Hogarth’s Bastards (Royal College  of Music/Tête á Tête). He has also commissioned songs by Philip Grange, Rodney Lister and Joseph Shaw.

Simon Grange’s forthcoming roles include Fiorello and Sergeant of the Police Il barbiere di Siviglia (Regents Opera), Ferrando Il trovatore (Winslow Hall Opera), and soloist in Fauré Requiem (Ceramic City Choir). 

He recently gained an MA in music from the Royal College of Music where he was a Cuthbert Smith Scholar supported by a Soirée d’Or Award, a Douglas and Hilda Simmonds Award and a Hans and Mary Romney Award. Simon Grange previously read English at Oxford University, where he was both an academic and choral scholar.
