The Australian soprano Tanya Hurst is a winner of the Czech Song Prize at the Emmy Destinn Young Singer’s Award, the winner of the Armstead Award and the winner of the Claire Croiza Prize for French Song.  She was a finalist in the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Prize for the singing of Strauss and in the Wagner Society of England’s Competition.

Her operatic repertoire includes The Fox Cunning Little Vixen, Gretel Hansel and Gretel, Lady-in-Waiting MacbethFirst Flowermaiden and First Esquire Parsifal, Kate Pinkerton Madame Butterfly, Marenka Bartered Bride, First and Second Ladies The Magic Flute, Annina La Traviata, Antonia Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Musetta La Bohème.

Tanya Hurst’s concert and oratorio performances have included Brahms Requiem, Handel Dixit Dominus, Arvo Pärt Stabat Mater, Poulenc Gloria, Mozart Requiem, Haydn Paukenmesse and Beethoven Ninth Symphony. Most recently she performed Richard Strauss Vier letze Lieder and the Liebestod from Wagner Tristan und Isolde with the Orchestra of the City conducted by Christopher Hopkins.

Last season Tanya Hurst performed Gerhilde Die Walküre in the new Grange Park Opera theatre.  She returns this Summer to cover the leading role of Amelia Un ballo in maschera.

Now resident in the UK, Tanya Hurst is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music gaining an MA in Music with Distinction and the Mona McGlone Scholarship.  She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Music from the Queensland Conservatorium.  During her studies at The University of Melbourne Tanya Hurst was an Associate Artist with The Melbourne Opera Studio now called Gertrude Opera Studio.  She was a finalist in the 3MBS Young Performer of the Year Award which was broadcast on 3MBS (Melbourne classical music station).

Tanya Hurst’s studies in Australia were generously supported by the Lady Turner Exhibition, Clarice Malyon Middleton Scholarship, A E Floyd Memorial Scholarship, Joan Sutherland Society Study Grant, Opus50 Charitable Trust, and PPCA Performers’ Trust Foundation.  She received a Tait Memorial Trust grant to attend the London Master Classes.  She has also taken part in Master Classes with Christine Brewer, Nelly Miricioiu, Ian Partridge, Roger Vignoles and David Owen Norris.
