British baritone Samuel Oram has been acclaimed for singing “with fire and gusto” (Seen and Heard International) and for his “masterful breadth of line” (BBC). He commenced his studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) where he gained a BMus (Hons) 1:1 and was awarded the RBC Singing Prize, The Doris Newton Club Prize, The Edward Brooks English Song Prize and the Mario Lanza Opera Competition. For his work as a concert artist, Samuel Oram is the prize-winner of the Royal Forest of Dean Herbert Howells’ Prize, and was a finalist in the London Song Competition.

His studies continued at The Royal College of Music (RCM) where he obtained a Masters in Performance (MPerf) with distinction.  While at the RECM he received several scholarships and bursaries notably the Yvonne Wells Scholarship and the Sybil Tutton Award and was awarded The Worshipful Guild of Cutlers’ Artist Prize.  Samuel Oram then received a Dennis O’Neill Foundation Award and a second Sybil Tutton Award to study at the Welsh International Academy of Voice where he gained his MA.  He is a Fellow of the Musician and Singers Guild (FGMS). Samuel Oram speaks German and French.

Among Samuel Oram’s operatic roles are Balstrode Peter Grimes, Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Belcore L’elisir d’amore, Il Conte Le nozze di Figaro, Nardo La finta giardinera, Thoas Iphigéine en Tauride, Ein Steuermann Tristan und Isolde, Marquis de la Force Dialogue des Carmelites, Title role, Simone and Marco Gianni Schicchi, Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia¸ Dandini La Cenerentola, Silvano Un ballo in maschera, Ein Lakai Ariadne auf Naxos, Capelio I Capuleti e i Montecchi, James Henry Street Scene, and Strephon Iolanthe,

In the contemporary field he has performed The Angel Off the Beaten Track (James Oldham), The Commentator The Colour Blue (Simone Spagnolo), Oberon P.U.C.K. (Mahlon Berv and Benjamien Lycke) and John the Manservant Jane Eyre (John Joubert) with the English Symphony Orchestra, recorded by SOMM.

Samuel Oram has a busy concert career both in oratorio and on the recital platform.  His repertoire is extensive and includes the Bach B Minor Mass, The Passions and Christmas Oratorio, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Britten War Requiem, Rejoice in the Lamb, Fauré Requiem, Handel Messiah, Haydn Creation and Die Schöefung, Mozart C Minor Mass, Rossini Stabat Mater and Messa di Gloria, Orff Carmina Burana, All Schubert Masses, Stainer Crucifixion, Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music, and Dona Nobis Pacem.  His recital repertoire includes Finzi’s Earth and Air and Rain, By Footpath and Stile, and Let us Garlands Bring, Mahler Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs and Five Tudor Portraits, and a rare performance of Bloch’s Advodath Hakodesh.

Samuel Oram’s Music Theatre credits include: Billy Bigalow Carousel, Harry Easter Street Scene (Weill), Sweeney Todd Sweeney Todd (Sondheim), Fredrik A Little Night Music (Sondheim) and Musical Theatre Guest Artist appearances with P&O Cruises.

Recent and forthcoming performances include Silvano Un ballo in maschera with Investec Opera Holland Park as a Young Artist, Schaunard in La Bohème with Paisley Opera, and Zeus in a new contemporary opera The Fire of Olympus (a collaborative work by Radius Opera).
